Everton Manager Ronald Koeman says he is “very disappointed” in Wayne Rooney after the player was arrested for drink driving last week, but will still feature the former England captain against Tottenham on Saturday.
The 31-year-old has been charged with drink driving after he was stopped by police at around 2am last Friday on Altrincham Road, Wilmslow.
Rooney was back at Everton’s Finch Farm training ground on Tuesday morning, as the players and manager returned following the international break, and following talks with Koeman, the former Manchester United striker will be involved this weekend.
“Obviously I am very disappointed by the situation regarding Wayne Rooney,” Koeman said in his pre-match press conference.
“We have spoken last Tuesday and the chairman Bill Kenwright spoke also to Wayne about this situation. In line with any disciplinary matter this will be dealt internally by the club at the appropriate time.”
Ronald Koeman added: “He will play this Saturday yes. If I see that Wayne is not in conditions, physically or mentally, to play then he will not play.”
Rooney is due to appear at Stockport Magistrates Court on September 18.
