Manchester United summer transfers for 2017/2018 Season

Nemanja Matic

Manchester United never made any late signing before the 2017/2018 transfer window season closed, they concluded there business early on before the Premier league started.

Towards end of last season, Manchester United Coach, Jose Mourinho prioritized 4 summer transfer targets, that he needed to boost his squad, a striker, winger, defensive midfielder, and a centre-back. different players were linked to Manchester United, the major ones for the striker position was Antoine Griezmann, Álvaro Morata and Romelu lukaku.

Following the ban of transfers on Atletico Madrid, Antoine Griezmann rejected any notion of any imminent transfer to Manchester United, because he felt it would not be morally right for him to move, because a replacement cant be brought in, so he decided to stay. Even though Manchester united were willing to meet his release clause of over €100 million.

Man united quickly switched there attention to Real Madrid’s striker Alvaro Morato, personal terms were reached with the player, it now remained a deal to be reached with the club, Real Madrid rejected numerous bids from Manchester united with the latest rejected bid being €70m, but Real Madrid were holding out for €90m, an amount Manchester United were not willing to meet.

In what seem like a transfer coup, a late bid of £75m was made to Everton for Romelu lukaku who was likely heading to Chelsea, Everton immediately accepted the bid, and the rest is history. The Striker position was one of the longest and interesting piece of transfer, the whole world wanted to know who will finally spear head Jose Mourinho Manchester United attack line and Romelu lukaku finally snapped it up.
